Modernist abstract painting with architectural silhouettes in muted mauve and brown tones.

Modernist Architectural Composition, England, 1991

$670.00 AUD

No meaning. Or lots of meaning. Up to you.

A signed 1991 British Modernist architectural painting by Barbara Doyle, rendered in oil on board and composed from a series of abstracted industrial and architectural forms against a wonderfully murky mauve ground.

Dark silhouettes appear to stack, intersect and hover across the composition - part machinery, part architecture, part imagined landscape. There’s something deliberately ambiguous about it; recognisable forms seem to emerge before disappearing again, giving the work an almost dreamlike quality despite its strong graphic structure.

Signed and dated Barbara Doyle, 1991, with provenance linking the work to The Mall Galleries, London. Newly framed in oak, its warm timber edge provides a quiet counterpoint to the painting's moody palette and graphic black forms.
