Brutalist Copper Relief Box with Horse Frieze, Hungary, c.1970s

Brutalist Copper Relief Box with Horse Frieze, Hungary, c.1970s

$450.00 AUD

The grown-up toy box.

A richly sculptural Brutalist copper box dating to the 1970s, decorated on every side with deeply cast relief panels depicting horses, figures and stylised trees. The handcrafted surface has developed a warm, bronzed patina over time, giving the piece an almost archaeological quality despite its distinctly Modernist origins. The narrative reliefs evoke the folk traditions of Eastern Europe, while the bold geometry and heavily modelled forms sit comfortably within the Brutalist movement. Equally suited as a jewellery box, desk object or decorative catchall, it's the sort of piece that quietly steals attention from everything around it.
